"The beauty of what I do is that there are no scalpels involved. I don't even own one. We use a small needle to enter the bloodstream without making an incision."

Dr. Julien is a nationally recognized, board-certified vascular interventional physician who founded South Florida Vascular Associates in 2001 — becoming one of the first physicians in the United States to establish an office-based clinical interventional radiology practice. Trained at Washington University School of Medicine and fellowship-trained at the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute, he brings four decades of specialized expertise to every patient. He serves on the Practice Affairs Committee of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), is co-founder and past president of OEIS, has served as a principal investigator in multiple device trials, and is regularly invited to speak at national endovascular conferences — training fellow physicians nationwide.

SFVA vs. Canadian Healthcare

Why Choose South Florida Vascular Over Any Canadian Clinic?

Canada's healthcare system is world-class — but for elective vascular procedures, waitlists can stretch 12–24 months. Here is what you gain by choosing SFVA instead.

🇺🇸

South Florida Vascular Associates

Same-day discharge. Walk in, treated, walk out — all within one outpatient visit.
Dr. Julien personally treats you — no residents, no hand-offs, no substitutions.
Full out-of-town coordination — travel, scheduling, and follow-up handled for you.

Pioneer in the field. Dr. Julien trains fellow physicians nationwide on advanced procedures.
🇨🇦

Typical Canadian Public Healthcare

12–24 month waitlists for elective vascular procedures under provincial health plans.
Multiple physicians involved — no single dedicated specialist throughout your care journey.
Hospital-based procedures with institutional delays, protocols, and impersonal environments.
Overnight stays often required, adding recovery complexity and patient disruption.
Limited specialist choice. Referral-only system — you cannot directly select your physician.
No out-of-town support. You navigate all logistics independently without coordination help.
Technology access varies significantly by province, hospital, and available public funding.
Condition may worsen during the wait — delayed treatment carries real clinical risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Patient Enquiries

Is the treatment painful?
+
Most patients report minimal discomfort. We administer local anaesthesia and conscious sedation to ensure full comfort. Post-procedure soreness is typically mild and well-managed with standard medication.
How long does recovery take?
+
Recovery is substantially faster than open surgery. Most patients resume light activity within 24–48 hours and return to their full routine within one week. Individual timelines are discussed in detail during consultation.
Will I need to be hospitalised?
+
No. All procedures are outpatient and performed at our dedicated office-based endovascular suite. You go home the same day — no hospital admission required in the vast majority of cases.
Does my insurance cover these procedures?
+
We accept Medicare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and most Medicare replacement plans. Our team handles all benefit verification before your appointment. Self-pay and financing options are available.
Can I travel from Canada for treatment?
+
Absolutely. We have a dedicated Out-of-Town Patient programme for Canadian and international patients — coordinating your consultation, procedure, and follow-up within a single visit. Most Canadian patients complete the entire process in 3–5 days.
Will Dr. Julien personally perform my procedure?
+
Yes. Unlike large hospital systems with rotating residents, Dr. Julien personally consults and treats each of his patients. You receive the full benefit of his 40 years of specialized interventional radiology experience — from the first consultation through to follow-up.
